Fireworks night


Cults Tennis Club will once again be lighting up the night sky with our very own Fireworks display. Each year, hundreds of people descend to Cults Tennis Club (members and non-members) to see our very own display.

Hot dogs, glow-sticks and tuck shop will all be on sale so make sure you arrive with plenty of time to grab a good viewing spot of what promises to be, once again, a great display by the Club!

Friday night social


The Club have organised a tennis and dinner social event for Friday 16th September and hope that you will join us for this evening of fun. The tennis will take the form of an Aberdeen Davis Club challenge with two teams (Team UK and Team Cults) playing against each other! Players will be allocated a partner and a team for the matches, so no need to find a partner before the Friday!

Afterwards their will be a 2 course buffet (main course and dessert) and will cost £12.50 per person. This event is also BYOB. The money should be paid in advance of the evening. To book your place please e-mail Airlie Bryce at iandabryce@aol.com in advance of the evening.
 
Tuck shop rota


Junior night is continuing to be a great success (both on the court and off it with the tuck shop!) and continues right up until the October school holidays.

North East championships


Once again, Cults Tennis Club hosted the annual Stewart Milne North East Tennis championships at the beginning of August. Thank you to all the players for making the tournament a great success again and a massive thank to all the kitchen staff who helped out.

With the help of all those who volunteered their time in the kitchen and to donate cakes, bakes, cookies and biscuits, we were able to raise in excess of £700! Thank you again for all your support and the Club looks forward to hosting the Championships again next year
 
North East Tennis tournament


Next week, Cults Tennis Club hosts the annual Stewart Milne North East Tennis Championships. This year the tournament runs from Sunday 31 July to Saturday 6 August inclusive.

As many of you know, club members have generously volunteered their time over the years to help out in the kitchen and sell various cakes, toasties, soups and sandwiches.

Brian Adam and Michael Howie have generously offered to run the catering team this year, so please contact them if you are able to help out in any way. Alternatively there is a rota for the week pinned on the kitchen door in the Clubhouse, please feel free to add your name to any sessions you can help out at.

Approximate timing of kitchen sessions:
Morning - 10am to 1pm   Afternoon - 1pm to 5pm   Evening - 5pm to 8pm

N.B. All 6 courts will be fully occupied for the duration of the tournament, therefore no social tennis or match play will take place during this week.
 
Family Fun day


Sunday 19th June / @ Cults Tennis Club / 2:00pm to 5:00pm

The annual Family fun day is almost upon us again. There will be bouncy castles, gladiator jousting, sports activities, chocolate tombola and refreshments. This is open to all junior members of the club and the cost is £5 per person (siblings of members are welcome).

To book your place, e-mail Dan Packham at d.packham@cultstennisaberdeen.co.uk ASAP so we know how many to cater for. We are also looking for volunteers to help man the bouncy castles and donations to the chocolate tombola.
 
Midsummers night tournament


Saturday 11th June / @ Cults Tennis Club / 7:00pm till late


Players of all levels are welcome to come down to the Midsummer Night Mixed Doubles Handicap Tournament on Saturday 11th June and join in the fun. We will run the tournament and fire up the BBQ mid to late evening. Please feel free to BYOB - the more the merrier (people who join us that is!).

The cost of the event will be £5 per person. To enter, please e-mail Dan Packham at d.packham@cultstennisaberdeen.co.uk by Thursday 9th June at the latest so we know what numbers are for cateriing for. Hope to see you there!


 
Total club tennis /Cheese & wine - Friday 20th May


On Friday the 20th of May, Cults Tennis Club will be running an evening tennis tournament, followed by Cheese and Wine in the clubhouse. We are looking for 15 mixed doubles pairings for this event, and you can enter as a couple, or individually (and you will be assigned a partner of similar playing level.

This tournament is open to all social and lower team players and the event cost is £4 per person. The tournament will start at 7pm and everyone is guaranteed a minimum of three 20 minute matches.

Following the tennis, there will be a cheese and wine evening held in the clubhouse. As part of the social evening, we will be running a Hedgehog Platter competition. The aim is to show your originality and creativity in reproducing this iconic 1970s delicacy (google "retro party food hedgehog" for ideas). 

We are very fortunate to have secured the judging services of our very own good Doctor, Mr Chris Blaiklock,  a leading authority on such hedgehogs. Judging will commence at 7pm with prizes at 9pm.

Cults players represented at County level


The Aegon 14U County Cup takes place this coming weekend (30th April to 2 May) and five (yes that's right FIVE!) Cults players will be representing the North of Scotland. Jamie Connel, Angus Edward, Jason Mathie, Varada Kamate & Abigail Doran will be taking the trip south to Warrington (Birchwood Tennis Centre) and Sunderland Tennis Centre to be part of their respective squads.

The North of Scotland boys team will be competing in Group E alongside Essex, Cumbria, Lancashire, Durham & Cleveland and our nearest neighbours East of Scotland(!) with the winners gaining promotion. The girls team are in Group D and are up against Yorkshire, Durham & Cleveland, H & W and Northumberland. Cults Tennis would like to wish all five players and the rest of the North of Scotland team the very best of luck in all their matches this weekend.
 
Term Time Junior coaching resumes Tuesday 19th April


Now that the easter school holidays are nearing conclusion already, it's time for the next block of junior coaching to start on Tuesday 19th April. We have classes for all ages and abilities throughout the week, run by head coach Gareth Rennie and his assistant coaches.

Opening Day - Saturday 19th March


The start of the 2016 season is upon us already, and the Club will be marking this occasion with an Opening Day on Saturday 19th March.

Junior events run from 10:30am to 12:30pm which will include games, competitions and prizes with the coaches. There will also be a special Sport Relief event 'Rally a mile'. All players will be rallying the ball for over a mile and are encouraged to get sponsors using the sponsorship form below (hot dogs will be on sales afterwards!):

The senior events start at 2pm, with the first Club tournament of the year. The tournament is for all standards of players. The event is also open to non-members so please invite friends and family to come and play. The cost is £1 and tea will be available at 4:15pm. Please e-mail Airlie Bryce at iandabryce@aol.com by 18th March to reserve your space.

There will also be a collection for Sport Relief on the day so please give generously.

The girls team are in Group 3A and are up against Buckinghamshire, Devon and Dorset. Cults Tennis would like to wish Jason, Ben, Lucy and the rest of the North of Scotland team the very best of luck in all their matches next weekend.
 
Junior movie night to kick start new season

To welcome back all the junior and mini members to the new season, we are running a movie night on Friday 4th March. Yes that's right.....we are turning the clubhouse into a cinema for the return of the ever popular movie night.

We will be showing the movie Inside Out (rated U - suitable for all ages four and over) and the cost for the evening will be £2.50 (this includes a drink). Of course the tuck shop will be open before the movie starts so you can buy your sweets before watching Inside Out on the big screen.

Membership fees due for 2016


It is just a little over two weeks now before the official start of the club's 2016 season. WIth the the new season just round the corner hopefully it's for the weather to crank up the temparture and give us a summer to remember!! This also means the 1st of March is fast approaching and this is the renewal date.

The 2016 fees can be found by clicking here or by clicking on the Membership page on the menu on the left hand side of the page. Details of how to pay can be found on this page.

There is no need to fill out a memership form if you are renewing, this is just for NEW members. If you do not wish to renew your membership please let Dan know at d.packham@cultstennisaberdeen.co.uk so we stop pestering you for your 2016 subs!

We hope you will join us for what will be another jam packed fun filled year both on and off the court.
 
Wimbledon ballet 2016

As we are approaching the end of the first Grand Slam of the year, it's time to ensure you are registered for the Cults 2016 Wimbledon ballot. Each year Cults Tennis Club are given an allocation of Wimbledon tickets which are allocated to members on a random basis. However to be in a chance of being drawn out of the hat, you must have opted in.

So how do you opt in I hear you ask? Firstly, you must be an 'affiliated' british tennis member and have a BTM number. BTM is free.... if you don't have a membership yet go to https://www.lta.org.uk/Members/Join/ and join today. Through this page you can link your BTM to Cults Tennis Club and also opt in for the WImbledon ballot.

You don't have long to opt in....you must be opted in by midnight on 19th February 2016.

Junior Coaching returns Monday 18th January


Now that 2016 is well underway, it is time for the first block of junior coaching for the year. it's time to dust down the rackets after the festive break, get your winter thermals on and get back on the court this term!

Happy New Year


Cults Tennis Club would like to wish all our members a very Happy New Year and all the best wishes for 2016. Once again we hope to have a jampacked year full of events for all sections of the club, along with a extensive coaching programme run by Gareth and his assistant coaches.

Davis Cup champions


Cults Tennis Club would like to congratulate the Davis Cup team on their recent success. The GB team beat Belgium in the final in Gent thanks to the Murray brothers winning all three points.

Things got even better for Andy Murray who went on to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, along with the Team of the Year award the rest of the Davis Cup team. This was a fitting award for Andy and the rest of the GB team players on their success during the 2015 season.
